The Executive Council serves as the leadership body of the Commission and is responsible for representing the interests of each designated territory. Council members work collaboratively to support the Commission's mission, provide strategic direction, and ensure that all territories have a voice in decision-making.

Executive Council Leadership

The Executive Council elects a Chair and Vice-Chair from among its members by majority vote. Each officer serves a three-year term and provides leadership and guidance for the Council's work. To promote balanced representation among designated territories, incoming officers may not be selected from the same territories as the preceding Chair and Vice-Chair.

Duties of Officers:

  • The Chair shall preside over all meetings of the Commission, shall perform all duties of a Chair and shall exercise any authority delegated to them by the Commission. The Chair shall be the official policy representative of the Commission.

  • The Vice-Chair shall assist the Chair by performing those duties and functions delegated by the Chair. In the absence of the Chair, the Vice-Chair shall preside and have all rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of the Chair.

Membership

The Executive Council is composed of one Commissioner from each designated territory. Territories are established through consensus of the Commission, and once designated, each territory appoints its Executive Council representative through a majority vote of Commissioners from that territory. Executive Council members serve three-year terms and may be reappointed, as there are no term limits.
