Yukon River Fishery Management Update
-
The Alaska Department of Fish & Game has issued updated closures and gear restrictions across the Yukon Area due to extremely low Chinook and below‑average summer chum returns. These actions include salmon fishery closures (no directed harvest of Chinook or summer chum) and gillnet removal periods (all gillnets, including 4" mesh, must be removed for 18 days in each area)
Selective gear such as dip nets, beach seines, hook & line - remains open for nonsalmon, pink, and sockeye salmon unless otherwise noted.
To determine which fishing district your community falls under, please view the Yukon Area district map attached. You can also view it here.
These actions were coordinated between ADF&G and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS).
