Yukon River Emergency Gillnet Closure - Subdistrict 5-ABC (ends July 20)

There is an emergency gillnet closure in effect for the Yukon River Subdistrict 5-ABC. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) issued this emergency action due to critically low Chinook (king) salmon returns and concerns for conservation during the peak migration period.

Subdistrict 5-ABC:

Effective: Friday, July 3, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.

Expiration: Monday, July 20, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.

Restrictions for Subdistrict 5-ABC include:

  • All gillnets are prohibited and must be removed from the water. The closure applies to all users, including subsistence and non-subsistence fishers.

During the gillnet closure, fishermen may use selective gear such as, dip nets, beach seines, and hook and line gear for pink salmon, sockeye salmon, and nonsalmon species.
