The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) and National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) are considering action in February to limit the bycatch of chum salmon in the offshore pollock fishery. On average 250,000 chum salmon are wasted as bycatch every year in the pollock fishery, and there is currently no cap on this amount of bycatch.

The NPFMC is also accepting written comment on this issue until noon on January 30th at the following website: https://meetings.npfmc.org/Meeting/Details/3116
