NOAA Fisheries has reopened the public comment period to gather input on the implementation of Executive Order 14276: Restoring America’s Seafood Competitiveness. This effort began August 27, 2025 and seeks feedback on barriers, management needs, science, and other priorities affecting U.S. fisheries.
Topics NOAA Is Seeking Input On:
Federal fishing regulations that could be suspended, revised, or rescinded
Challenges facing specific fisheries and ideas for innovative improvements
Examples of existing regulations that could be modified to strengthen U.S. fishing businesses
Ways to improve fisheries management and science, including:
Use of cost-effective and reliable technology and cooperative research for stock assessments
Modernizing data collection to better reflect real-time conditions
Tools, information, and support U.S. fishing businesses need to adapt to economic and environmental changes
Opportunities to expand exempted fishing permit programs to increase fishing opportunities nationwide
